I mean holy shit, sweep the damned leg, or a swift knee to the crotch = game over dude is not going to fight you, so in this worst case scenario use that time afterward to verify that he/she/LBGTWTFBBQ is or was a threat if not, file a report that you assaulted a citizen and relinquish yourself to your police leadership and eventually the wisdom of your city council or mayor.

Did you see the lady who got tossed the other day here in the Great Republic of Tejas? She was legitimately drunk, causing trouble; a cruiser shows up, officer gets her pinned to the bushbar, she’s resisting by not letting him cuff her (even though she’s completely immobilized otherwise, and not really fighting, per se, just being difficult as drunks will do), and he grabs her arm and throws her about 6 feet from the cruiser, where she lands on her face and instantly passes out from the impact. Then he puts a knee in her back and cuffs her.

All in front of her 6yo daughter.

I am so torn on that one piece, mostly because I do not know the truth about what happened that day, and also because I have family in LEO in a very, very crime-riddled Southern city. If your cops are not capable of overpowering any would be assailant without resorting to killing them, then you need to cut ranks and hire more competent officers, pay them better because you won’t have the croneyism going on anymore, and recognize their sacrifices when they willingly endanger themselves in trying to not take lives.

You know what a more effective teaching tool can be for a neighborhood filled with gang related activity (that is a misnomer and a way to make minuscule charges stick on petty criminals)? If you end up in a fistfight with a suspect, kick his ass (DO NOT KILL HIM) and then conduct a good arrest with actual evidence and don’t tack on trumped up “attempted murder/resisting arrest charges”. You know what I would think about if I got arrested in similar conditions? How the fuck did my actions get me here? How did I think a fistfight with a cop would end?

Just a thought, I am finding after several years of extreme violence, that I don’t want to see people getting killed anymore. I’m even becoming hesitant about people in ISIS, killing large amounts of formerly oppressed people doesn’t teach them anything about becoming better people.

This, so much this. Why do they hate us in the first place? Is it because they’ve been occupied by foreign powers since before WWI? Killing them only strengthens their resolve and cements their beliefs.

Can’t exactly hug it out with them either, but bringing war to their doorstep certainly isn’t making the case that they’re wrong.

Ok, fair point, for the record for the years of 2004-2013 I was largely in and out of so many third world shitholes that my presence in rarely made anything better, I have missed out on a great many bits of info from my own country.

Beautiful country, shame about all the racists.

Stayed at a lodge in Shasta one Thanksgiving, it was beautiful. I used to drive that pass between Yreka and Ashland at least once a year when I lived up there. The speed limits in Oregon suck, but at least the road was scenic.
